about

It’s with a mix of emotions that we make available our complete Prison Tatt Records catalog. William Berger, owner and operator, recently passed away. He was a friend, supporter, and collaborator. He released our first record, invited us to perform on WFMU, released a tape of ours celebrating the East River, and wrote numerous liner notes for other LP releases on other labels—short essays that stand out for the illumination they cast on the weirdness of those specific projects.

These releases, in the spirit of Prison Tatt, are low fi and noisy. William was a stickler for that vibe. So please enjoy the grit.

The Bog Nebula was recorded in one take and all on one track in our small apartment in Greenpoint. William released it after seeing us perform it a couple of times in now shuttered spots like the old Silent Barn and Party Expo. It was released as a single sided 12 inch.

Twin Lights is a tape release with two long form tracks, Mosa and Infra Viam.

Mosa is a track composed from and around hydrophone recordings I made in various locations along the East River. Originally, this was to be a very clean sounding ambient piece but William heard the raw master and insisted on releasing it unmixed. We obliged.

Infra Viam is a live recording William made of a set of ours at the now defunct Death by Audio space down by the East River. It was the perfect compliment to Mosa for this release. Development has altered the face and form and feel of the north Brooklyn East River over the last few years. Twin Lights speaks to a time when strange things still happened along its body.

RIP Wm. Berger.

Nathan.
